A PDO (Poly-Diax-anOne) thread lift is a non-surgical procedure where sterile threads are introduced under the skin to produce a subtle yet visible “lift” or "rejuvenation" in the skin. Loose skin is pulled upwards by inserting an absorbable sterile surgical suture through a small hole near the area of treatment. This procedure is done with topical and local anesthesia. Some swelling, bruising and (rarely) bunching can happen for a few days after the procedure.
We have 3 types of PDO threads; a "straight" thread, a "corkscrew" thread, and a "barbed" thread. The "straight" or mono-thread is a single, smooth length of thread which is great for outlining lips, reducing upper lip lines, flattening a bumpy chin, rejuvenating under-eye areas or flattening your angry 11's that Botox won't take away. The "corkscrew" thread is great for reducing the gap in your smile lines, plump and augment your lips, reduce the hollow in your tear trough, or smooth the wrinkles in your cheeks. The "barbed" thread will lift and tighten loose skin or strengthen areas affected by cellulite. Your experienced Practitioner can advise you of which threads will give you the results you are looking for.
Besides creating a lift to the skin, a thread lift will also stimulate the body’s healing response, causing the body to direct large amounts of collagen to treated areas.
Collagen helps cultivate growth factors that support the health and youthful condition of our skin. Collagen keeps the skin strong, adds volume and gives it a supple appearance. As we age, the body creates less collagen, leading to an 80% reduction in skin thickness by the age of 70. This plays a large role in the formation of loose, wrinkled skin.
Patients often see the effects of PDO threads for up to 18 months after their treatments because the body continuously works to rejuvenate the areas where the thread is attached, causing collagen to be produced.
Before PDO threads, the only way to address skin laxity problems such as jowls and drooping cheeks was through a facelift surgery. Skin resurfacing treatments can help to restore some degree of firmness, but once loose skin is present, only a scalpel can completely remove it.
This low-risk and noninvasive treatment is great for those who want natural-looking results. This treatment is also less expensive than surgery, without external stitches, no anesthesia risks, and one can go back to work after the treatment. PDO threads typically last 4 weeks to four months before the thread is absorbed, but the effects of additional collagen can last up to eighteen months.
